Editorial: Selective empathy is weakening our bonds

When a friend falls ill, most people will feel a pang of empathy. They’ll express wishes for a speedy recovery and make sure that they’re doing okay. But when a distant classmate falls ill, that same compassion often disappears. 

This simple difference in reaction reflects a growing habit of selective empathy, which is the tendency to care for some while overlooking others. Although it may seem harmless, this mindset has weakened the way people connect with one another.

Editorial: Schools are teaching students to perform instead of understand

There is a flaw in America’s education system. In my ongoing pursuit of knowledge, I’ve begun to notice a pattern: studying countless formulas, vocabulary terms, and events, only to forget them all after the test. I’ve found myself reading the text and registering it without fully absorbing it – without stopping to ask, “Why?”

‘Squid Game’ Season 2 tops charts with global impact

The highly anticipated second season of “Squid Game,” directed by Emmy Award-winning director Hwang Dong-Hyuk, began airing on Dec. 26, 2024. The South Korean award-winning series gained a substantial amount of praise, with its first season earning a 95% score on Rotten Tomatoes and its second season receiving a respectable 82%.

The three-day event ran from Friday, Nov. 29, to Sunday, Dec. 1, attracting pop culture enthusiasts from diverse backgrounds. 

Consumer rights soar with new airline refund policy

A new federal policy requires airlines to refund travelers for canceled flights or those experiencing significant delays effective Oct. 28. Under this new rule enforced by the U.S. Department of Transportation, all airlines must issue refunds for domestic flights delayed by more than three hours and international flights delayed by over six hours, according to a statement from the White House.
